Ukrainian Jews

As of now, the people in Ukraine can still travel to the West and pass over the Polish border. Just last night 3 buses leaving from Kyiv full of Ukrainian Jews from different parts of Ukraine left for the Polish border. As I am writing this letter, they should arrive in Poland’s safety. It is very possible that once Russia takes control of Kyiv and the whole country they will put their soldiers on the borders to stop all the citizens from leaving. If this reality comes to pass then we know what it’s like to be a Jew in Ukraine under the control of Russia. It will get very dangerous for those Jewish families left behind. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine is now letting women, children, and the elderly leave the country but holding back the departure of all the men between the ages of 18 to 60 behind to fight. He has put a new law in action saying that any citizen that fights against the Russian Invasion will have all his debts erased. Once the Russian military takes post in the cities of Ukraine and the citizens begin to rise up in resistance against them, then the Russian military will most definitely have lists of people to start targeting.

Now comes the question of how, when, and with what do we have to support a mission like this. Like many other ministries in Israel Covid-19 hurt us and with the wars and rumors of wars people are frightened and folks are uncertain of their future.  We know that only the few who understand the importance of Israel in these last days will be there with support.  After all the preparations, we can now see the urgency of getting ready and having boats ready to go, but we will need sufficient amounts of water, food, and medical supplies as well as the finances needed to pay for multiple exits and entrees fees of all the boats. At the same time, once we began to get closer to our extraction point, it will be necessary to have cash on hand to get things done in the Ports and Marinas.

On a personal note, the brother of Ola’s (my wife’s) Father is in Ukraine. Now while my heart goes out to him and his family, I can’t help but believe that this is a Blessing in disguise allowing us to have direct contact on the ground with a trustworthy source.

At this time the Russian tanks are in the streets of the second-largest city in Ukraine Kharkiv. The citizens are fighting alongside the Ukrainian military. They are firing upon the Russian invaders from the rooftops and throwing Molotov cocktails at the tanks. Ola’s uncle is one of the people.

We are doing our part, now we need our partners to step in and support us with finances and prayer in this dangerous mission. This is what we have been preparing for and the moment is here and now.
